SNORKELING Between 2 continents in Iceland 34°F water temperature…

Curtesy of Atlas Ocean Voyages Itinerary :
This has been on my Bucket List for a long time and I finally did it! A snorkeling tour of Silfra where the astonishing clarity of the water reveals a mesmerizing underwater world full of colors you can’t even imagine from the drab silver surface water. Silfra is a fissure created by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates cutting through Iceland. The Silfra fissure fills with glacial water that has been filtered underground for decades through hardened, porous lava rock. The filtering process of the glacial water makes Silfra one of the clearest bodies of water on earth with up to 400ft/ 120 meters of visibility (and tastes great!).
It was definitely one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done. It was extremely uncomfortable wearing the dry suit (they have to put tight bands right around your neck and wrists to stop the 34’F/2’C water getting into your suit and you wear a neoprene full head mask, gloves and snorkel mask making it very claustrophobic!). It was freezing cold, rainy and miserable. My lips froze from the intense cold water but overall it one of the most memorable and wonderful experiences which will be a priceless memory forever.

5 Tips for Vacation Travel
1/7/2019 2:40:57 AM Link | | Add comment
With the holidays over, many of us are planning for spring break and summer vacations. Travel permits you to relax and get a break from your current friends and social circle. It is a chance to take in new surroundings and have some different experiences. Here are 5 tips to keep in mind as you prepare for any vacation.
Find Out the Cancellation Policy
When it come to booking hotels, transportation, or things to do on your vacation, it is important to find out the cancellation policy. For example, if you cancel a hotel reservation within 30 days of your arrival, then you may be liable to pay for your stay or at the very least forfeit your deposit.
Consider Buying Travel Insurance
Depending on the type of trip you are taking, it might be worth taking advantage of travel insurance. It can provide protection in case your trip is cancelled due to weather or other issues unrelated to your personal circumstances. While you might not be able to get all your money back, you may be able to recover a portion and that can ease your losses.
Often travel insurance is not that expensive and it may even be a legal requirement, depending on the type of travel you are doing. Shop around for travel insurance, including agencies outside of the travel industry.
Understand Your Phone Coverage
It goes without saying that data plans can get pricy, even more when you are out of the country. Therefore, checking with your carrier before you travel can help you to find a temporary plan to keep the costs down.
You may find that they have a special international plan that you can sign up for during the month of your trip. Traveling with your phone means having adapters to allow you to charge your device. Also, whenever possible, use wi-fi to limit your data usage.
Know Your Transportation Options
Once you leave your home town airport, you might find that the transportation options are different at your destination. Take the time to research the airport and area around your destination to determine if public transportation is an option or not. You may find that it is cheaper to hire a private car for the duration of your stay.
Trains or rental bikes might also be available. If you are traveling in a group, consider taking advantage of special chauffeured company airport transfer services. Bus rentals are also available if your group is large enough and can provide a means to transport your group to various locations throughout the city or countryside.
A Travel Agency Can Help
If you are booking a large trip for multiple people, consider using a travel agency. They can assist you with all the bookings, making sure to address all the details of your trip, including transportation, events during your stay, and accommodations. They can also help you to find travel insurance if necessary.
Plus, they can help you to find the packages that could make your trip more affordable or allow you to stay an extra day or two longer. Working with an agent can take the stress off travel, especially if you are planning a trip for your family, a group of co-workers, or a trip with your closest friends.
Does Your Medical Insurance Cover Travel?
Depending on where you are traveling, you may find that your medical insurance will not cover any expenses related to a sudden illness. Check with your medical insurance agent so you understand the limits of your policy before getting on your plane.
If you take the time to do these things as you plan your trip, you will find that your next vacation is less stressful and more relaxing. If you have questions regarding your next trip, we can help! Contact us for information regarding travel deals and our top-notch services today.
